'In Dialogue' - In Progress

Space One is located up a central staircase in an old market which is also home to traders with stalls selling rice, beans, kimchi, fish, flour and other local produce until late at night. It is usually quiet. The locals sit and socialise. My days are spent exploring some of old Korea (view from Samcheong-dong above) visiting palaces, shopping districts, and snacking on street food. I make my way to Yongsan for 5pm and continue with my work here until 8 or 9pm as visitors stop by.

This area is quite an inspiring place but it is actually undergoing quite drastic changes. As gentrification spreads, shiny boutique shops open alongside the brik-a-brak shops selling anything and everything (these remind me of home, specifically, DIY store at elephant and castle shopping centre).

I have been thinking about how to capture this critical point in time here, as well as being creative with my found materials. Placing collages in the space and around the market has been an exciting experiment. It is not the first time I have thought about this combination of found photographic images and photography/film. So I set out with my cutouts and camera looking for visual relationships and was surprised by how quickly I found them...
